The Coaching
Program was adopted at the 2005 NDFC Annual General Meeting.
Pilot workshops were conducted between
October and December 2005 and was greeted with a great deal of
success. Since then, many Albertan dart players have taken
various levels of coaching certification.

There are 4 levels of coaches for the sport of darts:
1. Community Sport Coach - would typically be a parent or
individual that may coach for a short length of time and
likely only coach at practices for a couple of hours once or
twice per week. It was believed that this would be the
appropriate level of coach required for Youth Leagues and
Zones.
2. Competition Introduction Coach - would typically coach in
the community and at Provincial Competitions
3. Competition Development Coach - would typically coach at
Provincial and National Competitions
4. Competition High Performance Coach - would typically coach
at National and International Competitions
Why Develop a Coaching Program for Darts?
Alberta is fortunate to be recognized as a sport, by the
Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks & Wildlife Foundation,
without currently having a coaching program in place. For
those that may not be aware, Darts Alberta has been approved
for an annual Sport Grant of $38,000.
ASRPWF places a great deal of emphasis on Coaching. It is Darts
Alberta's objective to ensure that this funding continues on
an annual basis and thusly, the reason for our interest in
ensuring the development of a Nationally-recognized Coaching
Program.
With a Nationally-recognized program, it is only a matter
of time that other provinces and territories may reap similar
benefits, recognition and funding as a sport.
