  May 3-4, 2008 - Silver Cup Youth Challenge
The Silver Cup Youth Challenge was held in Ponoka May 3-4th and all participants and organizers had a wonderful experience.

   February 8, 2008 - The Provincials are approaching to earn a spot on Team Alberta
This Family Day long weekend, the top-8 men and top-8 ladies (and one alternate of each) will be decided at Alberta's annual Provincial Adult Championships, Feb 16-18, 2008. Our new 2008 team, representing different communities from all around Alberta, will compete for Alberta at the Nationals in Winnipeg June 10-13, 2008.

Anyone that did not participate in a zone playoff, but wants to buy-in to the provincials, can do so at a cost of $200.00. However, all zone players are provided with the first opportunity of open spots. Direct buy-in players are only allowed if all 64 spots are not filled.

If your name is highlighted, then you  are NOT GUARANTEED entry into the provincials.

Please contact your Zone Director to find out if there is a possibility for entry or if you do have a guaranteed entry and are not planning to  attend.

February 21, 2007 - Congrats to new 2007 Adult Team Alberta
This past Family Day long weekend, the top-8 men and top-8 ladies (and one alternate of each) were decided at Alberta's annual Provincial Championships. Our new 2007 team, representing seven different communities from all around Alberta, will compete for Alberta at the Nationals in Saskatoon June 12-15, 2007.

   February 2, 2007 - New $20,000 DA-Ranked Tournament (Dublin's Open)
Ford Mustang Coupe At least $20,000 will be on the line during the weekend of July 20th-22nd in Medicine Hat at the Dublin Open, the most recent addition to the DA-ranked tourney family.
 In addition, Medicine Hat’s Rodeo Ford will present a new 2007 Ford Mustang (not necessarily as shown) to the first individual to shoot a perfect 9-dart game in the finals of either Men's Singles or Lady's Singles events.

   February 2, 2007 - AGM Shoot open to all DA Members - Youth and Adult - to compete for at least $4,000
All DA members are encouraged to come to the AGM & Shoot including our Youth players (only those over 18 years of age can vote). 
Only those attending the AGM can participate in the Shoots. A minimum of $4000 will be won in the various Youth and Adult Singles events following the morning’s meeting. Because of the Youth involvement at this event, the City of Calgary smoking bylaws and DA policy adherence restricts smoking within the facility.

  March 30, 2008 - Team Morinville - Youth Provincial League Champions
This past Sunday (march 30th) in Ponoka the Youth Provincial League Championships were held. Congratulations to all who attended and to all who helped put this tournament together. 

The above team of (L-R) Carrie Price, Chad Richardson, Sterling Craig and Raelyn Mills-Meunier from Morinville took home first place. Coming in second, out of Calgary was the team of Vanessa Janes, Jenna Kane, Chris Moss, and Kody Tomchuk. Third place went to Robyn Chubbs, Alysha Woodford, Justice Kowalsky, and ChadMcIssac from the host town of Ponoka.

  March 10, 2008 - Darts Alberta AGM
Sunday, March 9th in Edmonton the AGM and youth & adult shoot was held. 105 members were present at the AGM with an eligible 87 members. The following executive positions were up for nominations and the Darts Alberta members that were elected, for the Term from July 1, 2008 until Jun 30, 2010 are:
 First Vice President - Dean Lawson
 Secretary - Lesley Johnston
 Membership Director - Cathy Janes (by acclamation)
 Youth Director - Dianne Greening (by acclamation)

The event was a great success with record participation and we look forward to the next year. (photos)

The
Member League Provincial Championships were held on Saturday, March 8 with five teams participating from across the province.

 2nd, Edmonton, Tame - Tim Moore, Brenda Dietrich, Fred Seaward, Dave Patrie
3rd, Edmonton, ECDLA - Tom Hogge, Clive Hatton, Vaneesa Coughlan, Brian Chobotar

  February 19, 2008 - Your new Youth and Adult Team Alberta 2008 are ...
On the Family Day long weekend the top-8 adult men and top-8 adult ladies (and one alternate of each) were decided at Alberta's annual Provincial Championships.

Then, the following weekend the youth Team Alberta championships were held and DA is proud to introduce our new Youth team, which will compete for Alberta at the Nationals in Winnipeg May 15-18, 2008.

  February 22, 2008 - Annual General Meeting and Member League Championship venues confirmed
Many challenges were experienced in attempting to book a venue this year in Edmonton large enough to host the Adult and Youth AGM Shoots in conjunction with our Annual General Meeting. As a result, we were unable to secure the same venue for the AGM Shoots and the Member League Championship / Adult Team Meeting.

  February 5, 2008 - Each Darts Alberta member to receive the newly published NDFC Rulebook
A number of NDFC rules have been revised over the years for clarity, several new rules have been adopted and the NDFC has recently published a new Official NDFC Rules of Play.

  February 5, 2008 - Inaugural Awards for Top Ranked Youth
The Darts Alberta Youth Ranking System began in May 2004 with the launching of the first-ever youth ranked tournament in Canada at the Silver Cup Challenge in Red Deer. With more youth Darts Alberta ranked competitions added to the list, the top ranked youth members are now being recognized with awards for their achievement of being the Number One Ranked Youth Competitor on their respective ranking list.

Darts Alberta values volunteerism within the sport of darts. Without volunteers, our Member Leagues would not exist and without our Member Leagues, we would not be the thriving organization that we are today.

  February 5, 2008 - Darts Alberta revises Member League Grassroots Award nominations
The Darts Alberta Member League Grassroots Award Program has undergone several significant changes over the past year, particularly with the introduction of the inaugural Developing Achievements of Rookie Talent (DART) Pro-Am style competition.

  February 5, 2008 New Darts Alberta Objectives
When Darts Alberta first began restructuring our bylaws back in 2004, a revised set of Society Objectives were also rewritten to better reflect our current organization. These new Objectives were presented and approved by the membership at the AGM on September 25, 2004.

  February 22, 2008 - Member League Championships March 8, 2008
(Member Leagues have already hosted their own playoffs to qualify for this Championship - Member League Executives will contact participating teams/players notifying them of qualifying.)

The objective of the Member League Championship is to offer a program exclusive to our Member Leagues, encouraging league members to compete in an event targeted at a relatively equitable calibre of competition. Darts Alberta's goal is to provide a team-event atmosphere complete with camaraderie and competitive spirit.

  February 6, 2007 - DA Survey results confirm the significant impact dart players have on the local economy
An on-line survey was developed and conducted by DA, focused on gathering statistical demographics of dart players from within Alberta and throughout Canada.
The general demographics show that dart players come from all walks of life, have a varied range of income levels and the majority have a high school or higher level of education.

  February 6, 2007 - A wealth of valued feedback is provided by members on the many programs and services offered by DA
An on-line survey was developed and conducted by DA, focused on gathering feedback from Albertans on the many programs and services offered. Feedback was received from an excellent cross- representation of competitors from varying skills levels. 
The results show that an overwhelming majority are ‘Satisfied’ to ‘Very Satisfied’ with the organization, rate the current Executive Committee as being ‘Effective’ to ‘Very Effective’ and believe the organization communicates ‘Well’ to ‘Very Well’.

  February 6, 2007 - Darts Alberta shares the wealth with its member leagues from their newly launched fundraising program
DA has joined the Husky/Mohawk Loyalty Program where our organization, our member leagues and our members will reap the benefits. What better fundraising program could an organization ask for than to be financially rewarded for purchasing fuel and other everyday products that we would typically need to buy anyway!
Each Darts Alberta member will be provided with a Husky Community Rebate Program card. Every time you make a purchase at any Husky or Mohawk, get your card swiped and everyone will reap the benefits.

February 6, 2007 - Darts Alberta launches a new Grassroots D.A.R.T. shoot with $1,200 prize payout
A new Pro-Am style tournament will soon replace the current Grassroots Mentorship Program. Entry into the Developing Achievements of Rookie Talent shoot will be by invitation only, limited to 32 participants (16 member league grassroots nominees and 16 elite adult / youth competitors) and be on a first-come first-serve basis. The new event will be launched in mid-September 2007, hosted in central Alberta and will have $1,200 in prize money up for grabs!

  February 2, 2007 - DA Annual General Meeting on March 11, 2007
This year’s DA AGM & Shoot will be held in Calgary at the Albert Park Community Centre on March 11, 2007 at 10am.
A special resolution needs to be ratified this year whereby the DA Bylaws and Constitution need to be replaced (For full details of this motion, please visit our website—www.dartsalberta.com). All former versions of the DA Bylaws or Constitution are to be repealed, and replaced with the bylaws to be presented at the 2007 AGM. 
All DA members are encouraged to come to the AGM & Shoot including our Youth players (only those over 18 years of age can vote). Only those attending the AGM can participate in the Shoots. A minimum of $4000 will be won in the various Youth and Adult Singles events following the morning’s meeting.

    Feb 2008 - PDC Statement: Jason Clark
The Professional Darts Corporation has suspended Jason Clark from forthcoming tournaments. The PDC have received a number of complaints over Jason Clark's conduct at the PDC's Annual Awards Dinner on Wednesday. These have been passed to the Darts Regulation Authority, and the PDC Board of Directors has decided to suspend Jason Clark until the matter is resolved.

    Feb 22 2007 - Grand Slam of Darts announced
(Excerpt from Evening Gazette, Feb 22 2007) 

A groundbreaking tournament has been announced, which will see players from the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and British Darts Organisation (BDO) compete against each other. The £250,000 Grand Slam of Darts will involve finalists from major tournaments over a two-year period from both rival organisations, with a 32-man field competing for a first prize of £60,000 at the Wolverhampton Civic on November 17-25, 2007.
