Youth Athlete recognized for his accomplishments

During the 2014 Annual General Meeting, Dawson Murschell was recognized for his many athletic achievements during 2013.

The Board was disappointed that their nomination for the Alberta Sport Connection’s 2013 Youth Athlete of the Year Award was not selected and they didn't want to see Dawson's accomplishment go unrecognized.

Congratulations Dawson for your outstanding athletic accomplishments in 2013!

2014 AGM AWARD PRESENTATION

As the Darts Alberta Administrator, it is part of my responsibilities to recommend special recognition nominations to the NDFC, Alberta Sport Hall of Fame and Alberta Sport Connection. Unfortunately, darts is still a low profile sport and our nomination for the Alberta Sport Connection’s Youth Athlete of the Year was not selected. Everyone will know by the list of accomplishment that youth member we nominated. With significant accomplishments over the past year, the Darts Alberta Board does not believe this should go unrecognized.

Dawson Murschell originally started his sport’s career in hockey. Once introduced to the sport of darts, Dawson worked extremely hard to improve his skills to compete at the World level. His passion, dedication and competitive spirit excelled him further than any Canadian male youth in the sport. In 2013, Dawson was faced with an extremely difficult decision. Being his last eligible year to compete in the World Youth Qualifier Events at the 2013 Youth National Championships, Dawson missed a monumental life event—his high school graduation ceremonies. Earning a Gold and two Bronze medals at the 2013 World Cup, I’m sure Dawson is confident that he made the right decision.

In addition to his outstanding achievements in 2013, Dawson was the WDF Americas Cup Youth Singles Champion Gold Medalist in 2012 in Belize. Two-time National Youth Males Singles Champion – once in the Junior Youth category in 2012 and again in 2013 in the Senior Youth category and three time Male Youth Pairs Champion – Junior Youth in 2011 and 2012 and Senior Youth in 2013.

Darts Alberta truly believes that Dawson Murschell was very deserving of the Alberta Sport Connection’s 2013 Youth Athlete of the Year Award. He is the epitome of an athlete that honors the game. Dawson displays good sportsmanship and fair play, with humbleness in victory and graciousness in defeat.

The Board was disappointed when Dawson was not selected for this prestigious Alberta award and wanted to ensure that he was recognized by his peers for his outstanding athletic accomplishments in 2013. Congratulations Dawson, keep up the great work!
