The Pioneer of Darts

It is with a heavy heart that Darts Alberta announces the passing of Len Worrell on Saturday, October 11, 2014.  Len Worrell was a pioneer in Western Canadian Darts.

Len joined the Edmonton City Dart League in 1952. In 1957, he played a major role in the creation of the “Klondike Open Dart Tournament”. Ironically this same weekend, competitors from throughout Canada are competing in the 57th annual Klondike Open.

Len is a recipient of many awards and titles of recognition, but the most prestigious was his induction into the Alberta Sport Hall of Fame for being one of 100 Albertans to receive the Alberta Centennial Award for Sports and Recreation in 2005.  His name appears on a plaque with many infamous sport figures such as Kurt Browning, Ron MacLean, and Peter Lougheed.

Len served 5 terms on the NDFC Board of Directors as the Provincial Director in 1977, 1978, 1992, 1996 and 1997.

In addition to the sport of darts, Len gave a great deal back to his community serving on many other Boards including:
