Child Protection Courses
Darts Alberta took the Coaches Association of Canada’s Responsible Coaching Movement Pledge in December 2017:
Our sport organization pledges to align our practices with Phase 1 of the Responsible Coaching Movement and is committed to ensuring that our athletes and coaches are protected.
Phase 1 of the Responsible Coaching Movement includes:
- The Rule of Two (Darts Alberta refers to this as the Triple Rule)
- Background Screening (including Criminal Record Checks); and
- Respect and Ethics Training
Darts Alberta strongly encourages all coaches and leaders working with children to take one or both of these external courses.
Respect in Sport
The Respect in Sport online course is available through Respect Group Inc., an organization founded by Sheldon Kennedy and This online training consists of the following 8 modules:
- Preventing/Reporting BAHD (Bullying, Abuse, Harassment, Discrimination)
- Mental Health Outcomes
- Power Dynamics
- Positive Emotions
- Building Self Esteem
- Physical Development/LTAD
- Legal Responsibility/Duty of Care
- Empowering the Bystander
- Concussion/Injury Management

Commit to Kids
The Commit to Kids online course is available through the Canadian Centre for Child Protection. As difficult as it is to learn some of these facts, this an area that sport leaders need more education. This online training consists of the following 8 modules:
- Child sexual abuse
- The grooming process
- Handling disclosures of child sexual abuse
- The impact of child sexual abuse
- Creating a child protection code of conduct for your organization
- Policies and procedures to use to protect children in your organization
- The C2K program for child-serving organizations* (Optional module for leaders)
- Knowledge validation test
